Description

Leishman stain is a histological stain used primarily for staining blood smears and bone marrow aspirates to visualize blood cells and parasites. It is a Romanowsky-type stain, similar to Wright's stain, consisting of a mixture of methylene blue, eosin, and azure B dissolved in methanol or ethanol. Leishman stain is commonly used in hematology laboratories for differential staining of blood cells, allowing for the identification and differentiation of various cell types such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It is particularly useful for detecting and characterizing malaria parasites, as well as other bloodborne pathogens. Leishman stain provides excellent contrast and clarity, making it a valuable tool for microscopic examination and diagnosis of blood-related conditions.
